Skin Resurfacing

Fractional resurfacing is a technique in which a grid-like pattern of CO2 laser pulses is delivered to the skin in such a manner that healthy tissue surrounds each area of laser-induced injury. This differs markedly from traditional resurfacing techniques in which the entire surface in the treated area is affected by the laser, resulting in a relatively long recovery period. This technique is the new "gold standard" for laser skin resurfacing and rejuvenation with very little downtime and a high safety profile. A significant amount of the aged or sun damaged skin must be treated to generate appreciable improvement. Therefore, a series of 3 treatments is recommended for the best possible result. A substantial benefit of fractional resurfacing is the ability to treat the neck, hands, eyelids and chest, areas where the skin is thin that traditional techniques could not be used due to the high risk of scarring and change to skin color.
